The Jamaica Organization of New Jersey

The Jamaica Organization of New Jersey (JON-J) is a 501(C)3 nonprofit organization with a dual purpose of building and strengthening ties amongst people of Jamaican heritage in communities across New Jersey and to serve as a resource to give back to our homeland. We are comprised of seven chapters within various counties across the state.

Beloved Members, Friends, and Supporters,

In the aftermath of Hurricane Melissa, I am more encouraged than ever by the resilience and strength of Jamaican families. We are deeply thankful for the outpouring of support from around the world.

Sixty-four years later, we remain strong in our resolve as an independent country. We stand on the shoulders of giants—our ancestors—who fought for our country’s freedom and taught us how to survive. Those survival skills played an integral role during last October’s catastrophic hurricane. As we continue to pick up the pieces, move forward, and strengthen our infrastructure in preparation for future disasters, we also celebrate this Emancipation and Independence Day by reflecting on a strong Jamaica: rebounding, making its mark, and taking its place on the global stage.

To JON-J, our families, and our friends: thank you for your service, support, and continued contributions here in New Jersey and back home in our island nation.
